Promising keeper suffers knee ligament damage

Goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo is to miss the remainder of Malaga's season with a knee injury. The 21-year-old picked a knock during a goalless draw with Sevilla on Sunday. Medical tests have now been carried out and Malaga have confirmed that the youngster has suffered a ligament tear. Asenjo is set to undergo surgery later in the week, but will not figure again until the 2011/12 season gets underway.

Recovery

"The recovery period is estimated at some six to eight months," Malaga revealed in a statement. Asenjo lasted just eight minutes of the weekend encounter with Sevilla before being forced from the field. He only linked up with Malaga at the turn of the year, completing a loan switch from Atletico Madrid. This is the second time has damaged knee ligaments, with a similar injury last season keeping him sidelined until the early stages of the 2010/11 campaign.
