Keeper keen to help Foxes back into the big time

Portuguese keeper Ricardo is hoping to help Leicester into the Premier League and earn an extended deal. The experienced shot-stopper joined the Foxes during the January transfer window, having parted company with Real Betis. He is no stranger to English supporters, having helped Portugal to penalty shoot-out victories over England at Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup. Sven Goran Eriksson was in charge of the Three Lions at both of those tournaments, giving him first hand experience of what Ricardo has to offer. He had no hesitation in snapping up the 35-year-old once he became available, and Ricardo hopes he can repay the faith shown in him by the Swede.

Proud

He said: "I've known him since I was a young kid in Portugal where he was coach of Benfica. I'm proud to work with him. He's a great man and manager. "That is why I am here. That is the one reason to come Leicester. To pay him back. "I want to get to the end of the season in a position to go to the Premier League. Then I will have paid him out." Ricardo's contract at the Walkers Stadium is set to run until the end of the season, but he hopes promotion will see him handed fresh terms. "I hope we go to the Premier League and I hope I get the chance to play in front of those fans," he added.
