Veteran midfielder hoping to paper over cracks

Claude Makelele admits friction within the Paris St Germain squad is doing little for the club's title tilt. The capital giants have slipped off the pace in the hunt for the Ligue 1 crown, with seven points now separating them from leaders Lille. That particular prize appears to have slipped through their grasp, prolonging a 17-year wait for top-flight glory. Frustration at a failure to remain in contention has started to cause tension within the camp, with certain individuals rocking the boat. Coach Antoine Kombouare has also been openly critical of some of his players in recent weeks, doing little for squad harmony.

Solidarity

Club captain Makelele has confirmed that cracks are starting to form, with it important that PSG pull together behind a collective cause if their season is to steer clear of collapse. "There are some issues which need to be sorted out between us," said the veteran midfielder. "Some time ago Mevlut Erding, Guillaume Hoarau and Mamadou Sakho had some difficult moments and we all showed solidarity. "Sometimes different sides to us can surface. We have to learn to manage that. "Some issues have caused friction within the group, but I am not worried about the squad."
