Pompey to let Kilbey go

Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill has confirmed Tom Kilbey will not be offered a new contract.

Cotterill won't extend midfielder's contract beyond this season

Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill has confirmed midfielder Tom Kilbey will not be offered a new contract to stay at Fratton Park. Kilbey has made three substitute appearances for Pompey this season, but is currently out on loan at League Two side Lincoln City. The 20-year-old's deal at Portsmouth expires at the end of the campaign and Cotterill has suggested it would be unfair to keep Kilbey at the club. "I have spoken to Tom to say there isn't going to be an extension to his contract here, so he has needed to go out and start playing," Cotterill told The News. "We had to weigh up how many times Tom is going to get out on the pitch between now and the end of the season when he can go and play 90 minutes if selected at Lincoln. "I can keep him here and be really selfish, but what is the difference between having six subs or seven subs? "Tom is not going to stay here. Hopefully he can carve out a living for himself in the game somewhere because he is a real nice lad."
