Hamburg have announced that Ze Roberto will leave the club at the end of the season.

Brazilian linked with Fluminense and New York Red Bulls

Hamburg have announced that former Brazil international Ze Roberto will leave the club at the end of the season after turning down a new one-year contract. The soon-to-be 37-year-old wanted a two-year deal, but his Bundesliga club were only prepared to offer 12 months. It has been reported that Ze Roberto will now consider approaches from Fluminense in Brazil, as well as New York Red Bulls in the USA. "We would really have liked Ze to wear the Hamburg shirt for another season, but he wanted a long-term contract," said Hamburg sporting director Bastian Reinhardt. Ze Roberto has made 335 Bundesliga appearances, which is a record for a foreign player, and he won four titles with Bayern Munich after also spending four years with Bayer Leverkusen. "I had a very interesting time with Hamburg, but I'd like to sign a new contract for at least two years," he said.
