Teenager switches from AZ in bid for first team football
Teenage Dutch forward Mitchell Te Vrede has switched to Excelsior from Eredivisie rivals AZ Alkmaar.
Te Vrede has made the move despite the possibility that his new side may be plying their trade in the Eerste Divisie next season.
Excelsior will take on Helmond Sport in a two-legged relegation/promotion play-off in the next few days to earn their right to stay in the top flight but the 19-year-old is looking forward to pushing for first-team action in whatever division that may be.
He said: "Excelsior means to me a beautiful and important step in my career.
"I found it beautiful that Excelsior showed interest in me. From the conversations we have held, it is important for my career that I am going to make progress.
"AZ would like to keep me, but I'm ready for the next step. At Excelsior, I expect to make that step.
"Of course I hope that Excelsior get through the Eredivisie play-offs - but also in the second division, I can improve."
