Spanish defender has option to join Real Betis
Newly-promoted Real Betis are closing in on the capture of Wigan Athletic's defender Antonio Amaya.
The Latics landed the stopper from Rayo Vallecano on a three-year contract in August 2009, but the Spaniard has failed to make an impression at the DW Stadium.
The 28-year-old spent last season on loan with former club Rayo and is now keen on a permanent move back to Spain.
Betis' head coach Pepe Mel is well aware of Amaya's abilities and the club are believed to have tabled a €300,000 (£263k) offer for his signature.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has given Amaya the thumbs up to return to Spain and he is now mulling over signing a three-year deal with Betis.
