Keeper heads home after struggling to find his feet in Italy

Portuguese goalkeeper Eduardo has opted against a move to the Premier League and has instead joined Benfica. The international shot-stopper reportedly had offers from Aston Villa and West Brom, but has decided against a spell in England. Having struggled to establish himself in Italy with Genoa last year, the 28-year-old feels a return to his homeland will benefit his career. He heads to Benfica on loan, with the deal including the option for a permanent switch to be made next summer.

Offloaded

Eduardo has accepted an offer from the Portuguese giants after seeing Genoa turn their attention towards Inter Milan's Emiliano Viviano. Benfica are happy to offer him first-team football, but accept that they must now move a goalkeeper on. Spanish shot-stopper Roberto and Julio Cesar are expected to be offloaded before the transfer window slams shut. That will allow Eduardo to battle it out with Artur Moraes and promising youngster Mika for the number one jersey.
