Magpies starlet to take in spell at Easter Road
Newcastle youngster Phil Airey has joined Scottish Premier League outfit Hibernian on a six-month loan deal.
The 19-year-old striker has been a regular source of goals for the Magpies' reserve side and will now be given an opportunity to prove his worth at senior level.
A switch to Easter Road will also see him link up with former Newcastle coach Colin Calderwood.
Airey becomes Hibs' sixth signing of the summer, joining Junior Agogo, Sean O'Hanlon, Ivan Sproule and Garry O'Connor in Edinburgh.
He is looking forward to testing himself in the Scottish top flight, with the time having arrived for him to take in regular first-team football.
Challenge
Airey told Hibs'
official website: "I'm really pleased to be joining such a big club like Hibernian and I will be looking to challenge for a first-team place.
"I love it at Newcastle, but I'm now getting to an age where I need to get first-team games under my belt and hopefully I will achieve that with Hibernian."
Calderwood said: "He is a player that I know from my time with Newcastle United and he has been on our radar for quite some time.
"So we are pleased to be able to get the deal over the line and to introduce another quality signing to the squad.
"We are pleased to be able to add Phil to the squad - he will offer us something different up front.
"Now with both Akpo (Sodje) and Junior returning to full fitness, we will have serious competition for places in attack and Phil will strengthen that area even further."
