PSV not prepared to let midfielder go out on loan

Middlesbrough have ended their interest in signing Orlando Engelaar after PSV Eindhoven were unwilling to agree to a loan deal for the midfielder. Tony Mowbray had been exploring the possibility of bringing Engelaar to The Riverside after the 31-year-old impressed during a recent friendly between the two clubs. However, Boro have confirmed on their official website that manager Mowbray is no longer looking to add Engelaar to his squad. Engelaar's agent Eduard Burleson suggested the player would have been prepared to join Boro, but that PSV were only interested in a permanent arrangement. "A loan deal is not an option," Burleson told the Evening Gazette prior to Boro's confirmation that a deal is no longer in the pipeline. "He's still a very important player for PSV who only want to let him go because of the high cost. "Middlesbrough have spoken about a loan deal and I think a loan deal is going to be difficult for PSV. "Everybody wants to be in the Premier League but he's not going to say no to a good Championship club. Orlando is very keen to come to England and Middlesbrough is a good club; he's definitely keen on a move. "He knows the history of the club, he knows the traditions of the club. "We know it's not the club it was five years ago but it's still a good club. It's an option for Orlando but it depends on the money. "The whole package has to be right if he's to leave. I think Middlesbrough have to decide if they want to buy him, that's where we are."
