Midfielder hopes to convince Rodgers he has future with Swans

Midfielder Thomas Butler has earned a new one-year deal with Premier League new-boys Swansea. The 30-year-old has not played since last April because of a thigh injury and has yet to feature under the stewardship of Brendan Rodgers. Butler, who has earned two caps for the Republic of Ireland, will continue his bid for full fitness in Wednesday's reserve fixture against Bolton. "I'm pleased that the manager has shown a lot of faith in me by giving me another year's contract," he told the club's official website.

Nightmare

"Last season was a nightmare for me with injury as I was out of action for nearly a year. "It was even harder because with a new manager coming in you always want to show him what you can do. "But you can't always control injuries; these things happen in football. But hopefully the injuries are behind me and now that I am fully fit I can make up for lost time." Meanwhile, club captain Garry Monk is also expected to feature in the reserve game in a bid to prove his fitness from a foot injury ahead of Saturday's game with Wigan.
