Young defender enjoying life at SPL club

St Mirren new boy Ilias Haddad has revealed he would be open to extending his contract with the Scottish Premier League club when his current deal expires in January. The Moroccan defender arrived in Paisley from Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar this summer and made his first start for the Buddies in Saturday's goalless draw against St Johnstone. The 22-year-old says he would gladly stay on with St Mirren if the opportunity presents itself in the New Year. "I'm signed with St Mirren until January then we'll see," Haddad told the Daily Record. "This is a good club and so is the football. "If they want to extend it, I'll stay. If not, I'll have to find another club."

Factor

Haddad is enjoying linking up with former Telstar team-mate Jeroen Tesselaar at St Mirren and says the Dutchman was a factor in his move to Scotland. "Of course, I spoke to Jeroen," he added. "I didn't have a contract in Holland so I called him to congratulate him on signing for St Mirren. "He told me it was a good club so I went on the internet to have a look and came over." Haddad admits he has been surprised by the physicality of the Scottish game compared to playing in the Eredivisie. "Scottish football is rough," he said. "On Saturday there were tackles which would be yellow or red cards in Holland. "I was surprised by this but I like it."
