KNVB give Feyenoord forward lengthy suspension
Feyenoord forward Guyon Fernandez has been handed a six-game suspension by the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) after hitting an opponent.
Fernandez struck NEC defender Rens van Eijden twice during Feyenoord's 1-0 loss at De Kuip on Saturday.
The referee and his assistants failed to spot the incidents but they were highlighted in television replays reviewed by the KNVB.
The governing body have subsequently banned the 25-year-old for six matches, with Feyenoord and Fernandez given until Wednesday to challenge the ruling.
After watching footage of the incidents, Feyenoord coach Ronald Koeman admitted before the ban was announced that a suspension would be fitting, telling
NUSport: "It would be appropriate."
