Hessenthaler won't be offering forward a route back to Priestfield
Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler has no plans to bring Andy Pugh back to the club, despite admitting to being impressed by the youngster.
Pugh was part of the Gills' youth system until May 2010, when the club took the decision to release him.
Since then, he has gone on to catch the eye at non-league outfit Welling United.
He has already struck 19 goals this season and reports have suggested that he is on the verge of linking up with Cambridge United.
It was put to Hessenthaler that he could hijack that deal and bring Pugh back to Priestfield, but the Gills manager says he has no intention of making such a move.
Partnerships
"We know Pughy and he has obviously done very well at Welling," he told
Kent Online.
"I think he is one to keep an eye on at the moment. You have to think about partnerships and I think Keds (Danny Kedwell) and Pugh may not be the right partnership."
Hessenthaler has also been linked with a move for Margate's highly-rated forward Kwesi Appiah, but he is refusing to add substance to the speculation.
He said: "He spent time at Ebbsfleet and Peterborough and we know a bit about him. He is banging the goals in and attracting attention."
Meanwhile, Gillingham have confirmed that Jack Evans has had his loan deal at Welling extended and say Connor Essam could be allowed to stay on at Dartford.
