Centre-back agrees one-year loan deal at Urawa Red Diamonds

Japanese defender Tomoaki Makino has agreed to join J-League club Urawa Red Diamonds on a one-year loan deal from Cologne. The 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact in the Bundesliga since arriving at the Rhein Energie Stadion from Sanfrecce Hiroshima last summer, making just eight appearances. Cologne sporting director Volker Finke believes the move is the best opportunity for the central defender to play regularly and to also further his development. "It is very important that he is able to play regularly," Finke told the club's official website. "We support the loan move because it gives him the opportunity to play in the J-League and for the Japan national team. "He is still young and we want to help further his development." Urawa have confirmed the deal and it will be finalised once Makino completes his medical.
