Young midfielder joins neighbours Dusseldorf for rest of season

Cologne midfielder Adam Matuschyk will spend the rest of the season on loan at fierce rivals Fortuna Dusseldorf. The 22-year-old Poland international has joined the second-tier side in order to earn regular game time ahead of this summer's Euro 2012 finals, hosted by his home country and Ukraine. Matuschyk, who is contracted at Cologne until June 2013, has made just nine Bundesliga appearances this season, featuring largely as a substitute.

Confirmed

Cologne general manager Volker Finke has confirmed the midfielder will join neighbours Dusseldorf on loan but says there is no option to buy. He told the club's official website: "Adam Matuschyk has one big goal. He wants to feature at Euro 2012 in his home country. "He needs to be playing regular first-team football in order to achieve that and he has not been doing that at our club this season. "This loan arrangement should help him in his attempt. We are expecting him to return to our club afterwards."
