Freiburg have snapped up striker Sebastian Freis, which has added to speculation that star striker Papiss Cisse could be on his way in January.
Cisse, 26, is one of the top marksmen in the Bundesliga with nine goals to his name this term, after bagging 22 last season.
The Senegalese star has long been tipped for a move to England with a number of Premier League clubs linked - most strongly Sunderland and Newcastle.
Freiburg, who are battling relegation, have always said they do not want to sell this month but reports suggest a big money deal could see them part company.
And now a deal for Cologne striker Freis has only added to the speculation regarding Cisse.
The 26-year-old joined Cologne in 2009 on a Bosman from Karlsruhe but after just four goals for the club he has now moved on.
Cologne general manager Volker Finke: "We have helped Sebastian Freis, he has been looking forward to getting more match action in a regular way. He is joining Freiburg."
