Schalke have confirmed the club will take up the option to sign Chinedu Obasi on a permanent basis from Bundesliga rivals Hoffenheim.
Obasi joined Schalke during the winter transfer window and has impressed sufficiently to warrant a long-term deal with the title hopefuls.
Director of sport Horst Heldt has praised the Nigerian's progress since joining Schalke and feels he deserves a permanent contract with the club.
"He is developing well with us," said Heldt. "Therefore, we have decided to take the option we have to buy him.
"Chinedu is a very important player for us in the attacking midfield, whether it be on the left or on the right.
"We are planning with Chinedu."
The 25-year-old will be rewarded with a contract until 2015 and he is delighted to be staying in Gelsenkirchen.
"I am looking forward to the future with Schalke," he told
Sport Bild magazine.
"They are a really big club and a great team who will always be challenging for silverware."
