French midfielder admits talks are under way

Sought-after Sochaux star Marvin Martin has refused to confirm reports he has agreed a deal to join Lille, but says 'progress' has been made in negotiations. Martin has attracted interest from a host of European heavyweights this summer, with Arsenal thought to be chasing the France international, while Lyon, Valencia and Borussia Dortmund are also reportedly keen. Reports in France on Tuesday suggested Lille had won the race for his signature, claiming the midfielder had agreed to join Les Dogues in a deal thought to be worth €8-10million. However, while the Ligue 1 club still appear frontrunners to sign the 24-year-old, Martin insists nothing has been finalised. He told L'Equipe: "My personal situation and my signature at Lille? Progress has been made. "There are a few things missing, but it progresses." The French newspaper also claims Sochaux have found a replacement for Martin in 23-year-old attacking midfielder Romain Alessandri, currently at Ligue 2 side Clermont.
