Three-year deal for versatile Costa Rican

Bundesliga side Mainz have signed Costa Rica international Junior Diaz from Belgian outfit Club Brugge. Diaz has signed a three-year contract at the Coface Arena for an undisclosed transfer fee believed to be in the region of £450,000. The 28-year-old defender struggled to make an impact in Belgium after moving from Wisla Krakow in the 2010/11 season and was loaned back to the Polish club for the last campaign. But Mainz general manager Christian Heidel believes Diaz has the qualities that can make his time in Germany a successful one. "Junior Diaz is a technically gifted defender," Heidel told the club's official website. "He is athletically trained and good in duels. "He is used to playing on the left of defence but he can also play in a more central role as well. "We are happy to have completed his signature."
