Kevin Kilbane has revealed he chose to join Coventry this summer because he believes in the team's potential.
The former Republic of Ireland international has signed for the Sky Blues on a free transfer after leaving his player-coaching role at Hull City at the end of last season.
The 35-year-old left-sided player has revealed he turned down a number of opportunities because he is convinced Coventry can enjoy a successful campaign.
"I've come to a really good club and I'm really looking forward to getting it going next season," he told the club's
official website.
"I spoke to a number of clubs over the summer about various roles but Coventry just really appealed to me.
"I spoke to Lee Carsley and Andy Thorn at length about it and they really sold it to me.
"I know that the club has dropped down to League One but I have been really impressed with the side.
"The core of the team has a lot of potential and with the squad being quite young as well, the future is looking good. I have been brought in as part of seeing that potential through.
"I really feel like I'm going to be part of something successful next season and I am more than confident we can achieve this year."
Quality
Coventry have already signed 20-year-old John Fleck from Rangers and experienced Republic of Ireland international Stephen Elliott on a free transfer and Kilbane is impressed with the signings.
"I was really excited when I saw the club sign those two players who have masses of quality," he added. "I actually tried to get John Fleck to Hull City last season while I was coaching.
"I spoke about him with David Weir and he highly recommended him. So I tried to get him to Hull on a loan move but he went to Blackpool on loan in the end.
"Stephen Elliott is another player who I have played alongside with in the Irish national side. Again, really pleased that we have been able to get him.
"Two real top signings there and I hope there are one or two more who come through the doors to freshen things up a bit."
