WSL season preview

New Liverpool star Fara Williams provides a guide to the new campaign and the ones to watch.

The new Women's Super League (WSL) Continental Cup season starts again on Saturday, when all eight teams will be hoping to begin a successful campaign. Defending champions Arsenal will once more be among the favourites but usual contenders Birmingham City will be challenging while Liverpool and Chelsea can be considered dark horses. Here, new Liverpool star Fara Williams, who will begin the season against former club and derby rivals Everton fresh from a debut FA Cup hat-trick against Aston Villa, gives Sky Sports the lowdown.

Title challengers

Arsenal, Birmingham and Everton have been challenging for the past two years. Those three teams never seem to lose players and have a good group of players. If you do not lose players and add one or two, you are always going to be strong. Liverpool are building and have the chance of being up there with those three teams.

Surprise package

Liverpool are a team who people are going to be watching. Chelsea have made some good signings and people are going to be looking over their shoulder. The WSL as a whole has been stronger than it has ever been. Hopefully, all the games are going to be competitive.

Ones to watch

If Jordan Nobbs can get a run in the Arsenal squad, she can be good. Arsenal have a big squad and it is competitive but she is a young England player. Nikita Parris of Everton is a young striker and England Under 19 international. She will have her chance this season after Natasha Dowie left for Liverpool.

Top goalscorers

Arsenal's Kim Little is a proven goalscorer from midfield over the years. Rachel Williams of Birmingham has again shown she can score goals in our league. They will be at the top of the goalscoring charts at the end of the season.

Best signing

Can I say myself? Only joking. Whitney Engen moving to Liverpool. She is a USA international and they have a winning mentality. She is a strong, quick and aggressive defender. She has a positive mind-set and brings a lot to the Liverpool back four.
