Nottingham Forest first-team coach Brian Eastick is confident the return of Matty Fryatt can ease the burden on fellow striker Britt Assombalonga.

Former Hull City forward Fryatt, 28, came off the bench in the 0-0 draw against Wigan on Tuesday night for his first appearance in a month following a groin problem.

Matt is an experienced forward who is capable of scoring 15 goals a year if he plays the games in the Championship. It's good to have him back.

He was unable to find the net, though, as Stuart Pearce's men failed to score for a third straight fixture after netting 17 in their first seven games.

Assombalonga still tops the division's scoring charts with eight goals and Eastick believes Fryatt's comeback will lighten the load on the big-money summer signing.

"The pleasing thing for us was that Matty Fryatt has been out injured for a few weeks and got 20 minutes at the end of the game coming off the bench," Eastick said.

"He's only had two or three days training. Matt is an experienced forward who is capable of scoring 15 goals a year if he plays the games in the Championship. It's good to have him back. We have got a goal threat, there's no doubt about that."

Midfielder Andy Reid is also back in training following a groin problem.

The 32-year-old has been absent for the three successive 0-0 stalemates, and Eastick believes his imminent return will add another dimension.

"I think we've missed the guile of Andy Reid as well to some extent," he added. "He can see that clever pass that gets people in."
