Tommy Smith has put his injury worries behind him and hopes to play a part in Brentford's unlikely promotion push.

The newly-promoted Bees are one of the Championship's surprise packages so far, having climbed to fifth on the back of four straight wins including Friday's 2-1 derby success over Fulham.

But experienced midfielder Smith, 34, has endured a frustrating campaign having made just two substitute appearances since August due to some niggling injuries.

"I've had a few little setbacks injury-wise, one thing or another, but now I'm fully fit," he said.

"It would be nice to get a run of appearances and training under my belt, to go from there and see what happens.

"The main thing for me is keeping fit, to start banging on the manager's door and hopefully get a start at some point."
