Luciano Vietto says he is delighted to link up with Diego Simeone again, having completed a move to Atletico Madrid.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined from Villarreal on a six-year deal on Wednesday, reuniting with the manager who gave him his professional debut as a 17-year-old with Racing Club de Avellaneda in 2011.

He said: "Simeone knows me since I was a kid. As soon as they told me Atletico was interested in me and he called me, I really wanted to come and join him.

"In Argentina we weren't together long and I still have a lot to learn."

Vietto, who will compete for a starting place against new signing from Porto Jackson Martinez and Ateltico great Fernando Torres, said he struggled to meet Simeone's demands in an intense first training session in Madrid.

"I had to quit because I couldn't keep up," Vietto said.
