Trialist Alex Whittle will get another chance to impress Hartlepool manager Ronnie Moore at Gateshead on Saturday.
The 22-year-old wing-back, formerly of Dunfermline, came on for the last 15 minutes of Pools' heavy pre-season defeat at home to Scunthorpe.
Moore was impressed by Whittle's attitude and performance and confirmed he will run the rule over him once again at the weekend.
"He got stuck in and I was pleased with him, he did okay," Moore told the Hartlepool Mail after the 4-0 loss.
"He will be involved again on Saturday so we can have a further look. Whether he starts or not, I'm not sure yet.
"Alex came on late but he was running around and making tackles and looked like he wanted to play. He is playing for a contract, the others have them.
"One or two are in their comfort zones but they won't be for long."
Moore also confirmed fellow trialists Fergus Bell and Johnny Giles will not be offered deals.
