Carlisle United sign Joe Thompson

Carlisle have signed midfielder Joe Thompson on a short-term contract.

Thompson, 26, who overcame cancer to resume his playing career last season, had been on trial with the Cumbrians since the beginning of July following his release from Bury.

Manager Keith Curle told Carlisle's official website: "Joe has earned this opportunity because he has knuckled down and worked extremely hard.

"We still think there's more to come from him, but he's fitted in well and he's shown us he can bring something extra to the squad.

"We're looking forward to working with him more as we go on from here."
