Back the big boys

Image: Valuev: decent value

Back Nikolai Valuev, Didier Drogba and Jonny Wilkinson this weekend, says Ed Chamberlin.

There's a brilliant sporting weekend ahead with another set of intriguing Premier League matches, Haye v Valuev, the first autumn rugby union internationals, the Breeders' Cup and lots, lots more!

David and Goliath

There's a real treat for fight fans on Saturday night as David Haye takes on the giant Nikolai Valuev live on Sky Box Office, with the start (walk-ins) at the civilised time of 9.45pm. Sky Bet have Haye as their 8/15 favourite, Valuev at 11/8 and the draw is a 25/1 chance. All the money has been for Haye but I think it's going to be a very awkward night for the British former cruiserweight champion and looking at the two fighters' records, he's too short a price. Valuev will be happy to fight dirty, to lean on Haye throughout and use every trick in the book to upset him. With Haye struggling to land punches and Valuev making full use of his height and weight advantage to bully the Brit, I think this fight will go the distance. Haye is much the better 'boxer' and has an obvious chance but looks a false price and Valuev is value to win on points at 4/1.

Football

The Premier League never lets you down. Every Sunday I do the afternoon shift on Sky Sports News with Charlotte Jackson and every week there is another topic on everyone's lips. From beach balls to referees' fitness, memorable goals to reckless tackles, controversial penalties to last weekend's NINE red cards! The Premier League may have its faults but it undoubtedly provides the most entertaining football matches in the world. I guarantee there will be something you are all talking about in the office this Monday morning but what will it be? The chances are that it will be Super Sunday's game between the Premier League's top two: Chelsea (11/10) and Manchester United (12/5, draw 12/5) live from 3.30pm on Sky Sports 1 & HD1. Chelsea are unbeaten in the last seven meetings with United at Stamford Bridge and have scored more goals (43) and gained more points (44) against United than any other Premier League side. The way they are playing I can't see Chelsea losing on Sunday. It's United's defending that worries me as Jonny Evans and Wes Brown looked all at sea on Tuesday night and Didier Drogba is virtually unplayable at times right now. Man United are bound to make a fight of it. Although they are still not at their best, they are as resilient and determined as ever, as we saw with their comeback from 1-3 down against CSKA. However, I fancy Drogba to score on Sunday (5/1 to score the first goal, 11/8 to score in the 90 mins) and Chelsea to win 1-0 at 20/1 with Sky Bet. Arsenal continue to purr and had Charlie Nicholas waxing lyrical on Wednesday night's Soccer Special. They go to Wolves on Saturday having not lost at Molineux since John Travolta and Olivia Newton John were number one in the charts with 'Summer Nights' (October 1978). Andrey Arshavin is still playing like 'greased lightning'...... In contrast to Charlie, I imagine Phil Thompson had 'tears on his pillow' after Lyon's late equaliser, which meant Liverpool's Champions League fate is out of their own hands and they are out to 66/1 with Sky Bet to win it. They play Birmingham at Anfield on Monday night and I won't be going near the 1/3 about a home win. I will though be backing the draw at Villa Park (Villa 8/11, Bolton 4/1) on Saturday at 5/2. After the late drama at Upton Park on Wednesday night, Villa have only won once in six games and eight of the last 12 meetings between these two have ended all square.

Autumn internationals

Every summer exhausted Northern Hemisphere sides travel south and are thrashed. They are excused because of the brutal domestic season they have endured. Every year hopes are high for the Home Nations before the autumn internationals, yet the Southern Hemisphere sides arrive here at the end of a long, exhausting season and still manage to remind us just how superior they are. Sadly I see no reason why this autumn will be any different. I find it so frustrating to see the miracles the coaches worked with the Lions players in such a short period, yet England's coaching team have struggled to create a consistent and winning side since Martin Johnson took over in July 2008. England's squad is devastated by injuries yet they are only being given a 3pt start by Sky Bet on Saturday against Australia. This is not a vintage Aussie team and I do like the inventive looking back-line that Johnson has chosen, though I worry about the amount of quality ball they will get against a much-improved and bigger Wallabies pack. I think it will be incredibly close on Saturday and can't resist a small bet on the draw at 16/1. I also like all Sky Bet's "Jonny Wilkinson specials" and fancy him scoring 12-16pts at 15/8.

Breeders' Cup

Marathon - first race of the night on Friday night. Looks like a UK match bet between Mastery (5/2) and Father Time (11/4). The former held the latter easily enough in the St Leger and won earlier in his career on Kempton's polytrack so the track won't be a problem. Godolphin are flying - Mastery wins. Classic - Zenyatta is an unbeaten, crack filly and was successfully tipped up here last year for the Ladies' Classic. She will have it much tougher as she takes on the boys for the first time. Further, she's never raced in a maximum field and could easily go off favourite over there with massive home support. Rip Van Winkle wins the race. We have followed this horse all season on the blog, he's been flying in his work at home and will relish the ten furlongs on the surface. Turf - We found the winner last year in Conduit and he's much shorter this time around at 6/5. He'll bang out of the stalls and go from the wire with Prescious Passion (8/1) setting a lightning speed which will suit him. However, on the Arc form, Dar Re Mi has very little to find and is over-priced at 7/2. Gosden loves the track and the meeting and can steal this one for the girls. Dar Re Mi is the 'nap' of the night. Mile - Goldikova was the most impressive winner last year and is way too good for this lot. The locals are having kittens about her wide draw but the mistakes made in the Foret, where she used up too much gas to get to the front from a wide draw, won't be repeated. 11/10 about Goldikova is great value. Filly and Mare Turf - The favourite is Forever Together but her prep runs haven't been as sparkling as they were last year when she won. Likewise, Magical Fantasy has been winning in the States but she only does enough and enough might not be enough against our underrated filly Midday. She won the Nassau in the mist and is more genuine than she has ever been given credit for. Henry Cecil can crown another successful night for the European challengers.
