Manchester City will switch their badge to one closer in design to the club's original crest.

Following lengthy consultations with the supporters, the new badge will have a round design, as has been the case in two of City's three previous badges.

Thousands of club members gave their views via an online questionnaire and dedicated consultation space at the Etihad Stadium, while hundreds more attended a series of free lectures on the history of the badge, provided by football historian Gary James.

Kevin Parker, general secretary of the Manchester City FC Supporters Club, said: "I am delighted that the Club consulted with the fans about our most important symbol. It is impressive that they canvassed our opinions on this matter and that they want to reflect our feedback in the ultimate design.

"On a personal note, while the Eagle badge will rightly live on in fans' hearts, minds and on football kits for all that it has come to symbolise over the years,  I am pleased that we will once again see the round design which has twice featured in our past badges."

City have been using their current badge, which is based on the arms of the city of Manchester, since 1997.
