Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez will wear the No 7 shirt for the Premier League runners-up next season.

The Gunners took to social media to make the announcement, saying: "New season, new kit, new number for @Alexis_Sanchez."

Sanchez, who has been with Arsenal since July 2014, will swap his No 17 shirt for the iconic number last worn by Tomas Rosicky, who has been released by the club.

The former Czech Republic international was given a guard of honour as he called time on his 10-year career at Arsenal after the last game of the campaign, a 4-0 win against Aston Villa on May 30.

Arsenal's squad gave the departing Tomas Rosicky a guard of honour as he said farewell to the fans.

Sanchez has scored 29 goals in 65 appearances for the Gunners, and will wear the shirt previously worn by the likes of Robert Pires, Nelson Vivas, David Platt and Kevin Campbell.

The news comes as Arsenal released their new kit for the upcoming season, designed by kit manufacturers Puma.
