Manager Micky Mellon has left Shrewsbury Town by mutual consent, and according to Sky sources, will speak to Tranmere about the possibility of him becoming the National League club's new boss.
Mellon had been under increasing pressure at Greenhous Meadow following the Shrews' poor start to the new Sky Bet League One campaign.
Shrewsbury are currently down in 22nd place and lost 2-0 at Scunthorpe in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday, with their last win coming back on September 3 when they won 3-2 at Oldham.
Mellon's assistant Mike Jackson has also left the club, with goalkeeping coach Danny Coyne assuming control of first-team affairs on an interim basis.
"Shrewbury Town manager Micky Mellon has this morning left the club by mutual consent," a club statement confirmed.
"Assistant manager Mike Jackson has also left the club while goalkeeping coach Danny Coyne will take charge of training and Saturday's Sky Bet League One game at Bradford City.
"The club would like to thank Micky and Mike for all they have achieved during their times at the club."
