Bayern Munich opened up a gap at the top of the Bundesliga with a second victory over Augsburg on Saturday.

Defending champions Bayern followed up their 3-1 win over Augsburg in the DFB-Pokal in midweek with another 3-1 win over their Bavarian rivals in the Bundesliga.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice and set one up for Arjen Robben, with Koo Ja-cheol grabbing Augsburg's consolation.

Their lead at the top remains just two points, though, as Leipzig extended their own unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 win at Darmstadt.

Marcel Sabitzer netted both goals for Ralph Hasenhuttl's men, who moved four points clear of third-placed Hertha Berlin, who can narrow the gap again on Sunday.

Should Leipzig avoid defeat at home to Mainz next Sunday, they will equal the record set by Duisburg of 10 games without defeat following promotion to the top flight.

Borussia Dortmund moved up to fifth with a goalless draw at home to Schalke, although their deficit on Bayern is now eight points. They could drop a position should Cologne pick up a point on Sunday.

Further back, Freiburg moved into the top eight with a 3-1 win at Werder Bremen, who remain on the brink of the bottom three after back-to-back defeats.

Maximilian Philipp and Vincenzo Grifo gave Freiburg a two-goal lead which was sliced in half by Santiago Garcia midway through the second half.

Amir Abrashi ensured Freiburg came away with all three points, though, with a third 15 minutes from time.

Bayer Leverkusen picked up a morale-boosting 2-1 win at a Wolfsburg side, who remain without a win since the opening day of the season.

The Wolves took the lead through Maximilian Arnold but goals from Admir Mehmedi and Tin Jedvaj lifted the pressure off Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt, who had been given a vote of confidence during the week.

Saturday's other game saw Mainz beat winless Ingolstadt 2-0 thanks to goals from Yunus Malli and Levin Oztunali.

The win lifted Mainz back into the top half of the table and left Ingolstadt inside the bottom two with just two points from the first nine games of the season.
