Robert Lewandowski has mocked the Ballon d'Or awards after the Bayern Munich striker finished down in 16th in the voting as Cristano Ronaldo won the award for the fourth time.

The Poland star scored 42 goals for the Bundesliga champions last season in all competitions, and has netted 19 times in the current campaign.

Lewandowski was not even the highest ranked Bayern player or Bundesliga star, according to the Ballon d'Or voting.

Chile's Arturo Vidal, joint 14th, is the highest ranked Bayern player while Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who ranked 11th, was the top voted Bundesliga star.

Lewandowski mocked the award by posting "cabaret" then '@francefootball' followed by pictures of smiley faces crying with laughter on Twitter.

His agent, Maik Barthel, later posted on Twitter "ballondor @fifa @francefootball Experts vote on this or patriots?"

Real Madrid's superstar Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or for the fourth time with Barcelona's Lionel Messi second and Antoine Griezmann of Atletico Madrid third in the voting.
