Derby County fan Ed Wood set a new Guinness World record when he watched his 93rd match in 189 days on Saturday.

Wood reclaimed the record he last held in 1992 when he visited Rochdale's Crown Oil Arena to complete the 92 league grounds in the English football league system, plus attending a game at Berwick Rangers.

He clocked up 22,000 miles in completing the record, which saw him take a four-month sabbatical from work, and has already raised more than £5,000 for Prostate Cancer UK.

A representative of Guinness World Records was alongside the 51-year-old to present him with an award after he shattered the previous record of 237 days.

A quirk of the record, first set in the 1960s, required him to take in a home game at all clubs in the four English divisions and a 93rd at Berwick Rangers, an English club who play in the Scottish league system.

Wood said: "Becoming a Guinness World Records title holder again after all these years is a great honour and something that has given me some incredible memories.

"I have missed my partner's birthdays and our anniversary, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Valentine's Day but to achieve the record and raise money for Prostate Cancer UK has been hugely rewarding.

"I have had help from lots of friends and from just as many strangers up and down the country - I have been touched by their willingness to help me out with tickets, travel, talking to clubs and lots more. I'm not sure I'll miss regular 300 mile round trips on a Tuesday night, but it won't be long till I am back at the football."
