Willy Caballero has warned Manchester City about the resurgent form of Monaco striker Radamel Falcao ahead of their Champions League last-16 tie.

Having progressed through their three previous knockout ties against English opposition, Leonardo Jardim's men travel to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday looking to make that four by replicating the form that has seen them climb to the summit of Ligue 1.

Chief to their rise has been the new-found form of Falcao, who has rekindled his career in France after underwhelming spells at Manchester United and Chelsea in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old has scored 19 goals in 25 appearances for Monaco this term and former Malaga 'keeper Caballero, who played against Falcao during his prolific spell at Atletico Madrid, believes the Colombian could be back to his best.

"I had good times against him when we played against each other in Spain," he told The Sun. "He was the best striker in the world when he was at Atletico Madrid.

"And for two years, he helped them become one of the most important teams in Europe. He came over here and couldn't show that level of his best performances.

"After the injury with the cruciate ligament, it was difficult for him at United. It's not easy after such an injury but he is scoring a lot again now.

"We must be careful of what he can do. We hope we don't see the best Falcao and he doesn't score."

Sat second in the Premier League, a timely six-game unbeaten run in all competitions has been ideal preparation for Pep Guardiola's men, who look to better last season's semi-final exit.

Monaco, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last 12 - stretching back to December 18 - and Caballero is under no illusions of the threat they pose.

"Monaco are strong and difficult to beat," he added. "Now the best are in this stage of the Champions League so we will have to concentrate more than ever to beat them."
