Former Brighton, Wycombe and Oxford United defender Paul McCarthy has died at the age of 45.
Cork-born McCarthy made more than 500 appearances in his career, which started with Brighton back in 1989.
He played over 200 times for Albion, also earning 10 Republic of Ireland U21 caps, before joining Wycombe in 1996.
McCarthy had seven seasons at Adams Park and was part of the team that reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 2001.
He moved on to Oxford for a year before dropping into the non-league ranks with Hornchurch and Ebbsfleet, with whom he won the FA Trophy in 2008.
