Who were the top scorers in England's top four leagues in 2017?

Harry Kane celebrates after completing his hat-trick

Harry Kane's record-breaking 39-goal haul in 2017 puts him well ahead of any other player in England's top four divisions for the calendar year.

The Tottenham striker broke Alan Shearer's previous record of 36 goals for Blackburn in 1995 with his hat-trick against Southampton on Boxing Day.

Kane finished 14 goals clear of nearest competitor Romelu Lukaku, who hit 25 goals for Everton and Manchester United in 2017, the same number as Luton Town's Danny Hylton.

With 22 Premier League goals for Manchester City, Sergio Aguero is joint-third long with Sheffield United's Billy Sharp, whose total is split across League One and the Championship.

Burnley's Chris Wood is one of five players to have scored 21 league goals in 2017 along with Bradford's Charlie Wyke, Stevenage's Matt Godden, Doncaster striker John Marquis and Jack Marriott, who swapped Luton for Peterborough in the summer.

The other players to have reached the 20 mark are Britt Assombalonga, James Collins, Leon Clarke, Billy Kee and Adebayo Akinfenwa, with Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez the next-highest Premier League scorer for the calendar year on 19.

The other players to complete the top 20 are the Premier League pair of Jamie Vardy and Mohamed Salah, along with Jorge Grant, Lasse Vibe, Chris Dagnall, Billy Bodin and Reuben Reid.
