Former England defender Terry Butcher has became the new head coach of the Philippines national team.

Butcher, who won 77 caps for his country and played in three World Cups, was officially unveiled by the team's Twitter account on Thursday afternoon.

It will be the 59-year old's first job since he was sacked by Newport County in October 2015, with the team bottom of League Two after gaining just five points from their first 10 matches.

Butcher was the man in the dugout when Hibernian were relegated to the Scottish Championship after losing a two-legged play-off against Hamilton Academical in 2014 and left the club soon afterwards.

His most successful stint in Scotland came in his four years at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he won what was then Division One in 2010 to guide the club back to the top flight.

Butcher was named Manager of the Month twice and was also nominated for the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year.
