Fry admits Championship club put off by striker's asking price

Peterborough United have ended an interest in Calvin Zola after being quoted a price of £1million to sign the Crewe Alexandra striker. Zola had been linked with a move to London Road as new Posh boss Mark Cooper looks to beef up his attacking options at the Championship strugglers. Director of football Barry Fry has confirmed an enquiry was made to Crewe, but the seven-figure fee demanded for the 24-year-old has deterred Peterborough from making a bid. Fry acknowledged the club are aiming to sign a new striker, but also ruled out an approach for York City hot shot Richard Brodie. "We have made some enquiries and Zola is a player we asked about," Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph. "I spoke to Dario Gradi at Crewe to see whether they were willing to sell and what the price would be. "He told me £1million so I wished him good luck for the rest of the season and put the phone down! "That is not going to go anywhere and our manager has absolutely no interest in the York player. "It is no secret we are looking to bring in a forward and we do have a few irons in the fire."
