Watford boss Malky Mackay says talks with John-Joe O'Toole about staying at Colchester can wait until January.
Watford boss in no rush to discuss midfielder's future
Watford manager Malky Mackay has revealed that talks regarding the future of goalscoring midfielder John-Joe O'Toole will not start until January.
The 21-year-old has impressed since being reunited with former Hornets boss Aidy Boothroyd at Colchester United and both club and player have signalled their interest in making it a permanent arrangement.
However, current Watford chief Mackay has confirmed that no decision has been made over the midfielder's future.
"That is something we will be doing with Colchester when his loan comes to an end, but discussions with either John-Joe or Colchester haven't begun about that yet," Mackay told
skysports.com.
"He has done pretty well since joining them, so we will assess the situation once the transfer window opens.
"I am looking to add to the squad in January, so that we continue to make a good fist of things this season.
"If that means we lose a couple of players along the way then so be it, as we can't have players here that aren't going to get games."
The Hornets were tipped as one of the favourites to go down this season, but their remarkable campaign continues with them currently sitting just two points off the play-off pace, but Mackay insists that they will not be getting ideas above their station just yet.
He added: "We were tipped to go down by many people at the start of the season, but we have competed well in every game we have gone into and so far we are sitting in a decent position in the table.
"I'm delighted with that, but at the same time we are well aware that there are plenty more games from now till the end of the season, so we can't even think about taking our foot off the gas.
"If we are still talking about the same positions at the end of the season, then fine, but there is still a lot of football to be played still."
