Youngster signs new three-year deal for German side
Hertha Berlin goalkeeper Sascha Burchert has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2013.
The Hertha No.3 has only made three appearances for the Bundesliga's bottom club this season, when first-choice Jaroslav Drobny and regular backup Timo Ochs were both unavailable.
Drobny is set to leave the club in the summer meaning 20-year-old Burchert will be promoted to No.2, and the club's general manager Michael Preetz says he is a hot prospect for the future.
"Sascha is a Berliner and a very talented goalkeeper," said Preetz.
"He is going to improve even more in the coming years."
Burchert was given a baptism of fire on his debut in a 3-1 defeat to Hamburg earlier in the campaign when he conceded two goals in as many minutes - both lobs from distance as he was caught off his goal-line.
Berlin are seemingly doomed to relegation from the German top-flight this term as they are currently seven points from safety with seven games remaining.
