Spurs star lands monthly award

Tottenham Hotspur defender Gareth Bale has been named Premier League Player of the Month for April. A series of outstanding attacking performances have helped Spurs remain on course to finish inside the top four and secure a much-coveted UEFA Champions League berth in the process. The Wales international's marauding displays on the left flank have impressed many this season, with his renaissance over the second half of the campaign really catching the eye. In April he had his most productive month so far, netting the decisive goals in consecutive 2-1 home wins over North London rivals Arsenal and title favourites Chelsea, to claim his first strikes of the season. He also set up Spurs' equaliser against Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend, although they eventually lost the game 3-1. This is the first time that Bale has won the Player of the Month award since transferring from Southampton to Tottenham in May 2007. He also becomes the first Welshman to scoop the prize since Ryan Giggs in February 2007.
