Former Gunner set to go up against old foes at Eastlands

Manchester City midfielder Patrick Vieira is relishing the crunch game against Tottenham on Wednesday. City host Spurs at Eastlands knowing that a win would see them leapfrog their opponents into the Premier League's top four. With a much-coveted place in next season's UEFA Champions League at stake, it is a win-or-bust game that is set to be an enthralling encounter. Vieira is confident his side can see off the challenge of the North Londoners, and the former Arsenal man expects to get a hostile reception from the away fans. He said: "It would be fantastic to beat them. I expect to get a bad reception from their fans but if we win the game that will be fine for me. "It's always exciting to play against Tottenham but the focus will be on the three points. "We are really close, we are getting there and I really believe with the help we have had from the fans we can do it against Spurs. "The last two games can decide the whole season, so we've been working really hard and it would be a fantastic achievement for everyone at the club to play Champions League football."

Personal performance

The Frenchman admits it has not been plain sailing since his move to Manchester from Inter Milan in January, but believes City are now starting to see the best of him. "I'm quite happy with my own performance," he added. "I feel like since I arrived at the club it has been quite a frustrating time. "Hopefully I can keep playing like that and help the team achieve what they deserve. "It was a great team performance against Villa, and we can be really proud. We had a difficult start but overall we controlled the game and deserved to win."
