Defender wants to lead Blues to first ever league and cup double
Chelsea captain John Terry says not even winning the double could make up for missing out on the Champions League.
The Blues defender was left heartbroken as his missed penalty in the shoot-out of the 2008 final led to Manchester United taking home the trophy after an epic match in Moscow.
Terry has since guided his team to the Premier League title this season and could win yet more silverware when they take on Portsmouth in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
Should Chelsea see off Pompey at Wembley it would be the first time in the club's history they have won the league and cup double.
Lifetime
But for Terry, that would not compensate for the heartbreak he still feels after seeing Europe's top competition pass him by.
He said: "Nothing will ever make up for Moscow unless we go and win the Champions League in my lifetime. That's a fact."
Despite the spectre of the Champions League memories hanging over him, the former England skipper said he was keen to garner more honours.
He added: "We have got a chance to go down in the club's history, the double has never been done before at this club and we have a great chance to do it.
"Portsmouth may have been relegated but nobody here is taking the game lightly. They will have nothing to lose and will have great support so we know it will be really tough.
"Mentally, we are not thinking our season's over. But it's in our hands now. It could put a dampener on a really good season if we lose."
Terry became skipper of the Stamford Bridge outfit during Jose Mourinho's spell in charge of the club and has not looked backed since.
To go with his three league championships, the 29-year-old has won the FA Cup three times and the League Cup twice.
Pride
And after guiding his team during their recent success, Terry says the honour of captaining the Londoners to their first ever double would be a gratifying experience.
He added: "Winning the double is probably right at the very top. Me being captain as well, I take a lot of pride in that and I'm looking forward to it for myself and the lads.
"We have worked so hard this season, it's been a tough ride, along the way, but we came through strong in the league together and that's what we have to do for one more game.
"Years ago I didn't think I would be in the position I'm in now. But once you get a taste of winning things, you want to carry on doing that."
