Non-league outfit fail to strike a deal with former England star
Paul Gascoigne has turned down the opportunity to take charge at non-league outfit Garforth Town.
It was reported in September that the former England international was to make a sensational return to the game with the Evo Stik First Division North League club.
Doubts were raised, however, when it emerged that no paperwork had been signed and that a deal was yet to be thrashed out.
Those fears have proved to be well founded, as it has been confirmed that Garforth could not reach an agreement with the 43-year-old.
Legends
Gascoigne's only previous management experience came during an ill-fated stint at Kettering Town in 2005, which lasted just 39 days.
Garforth had hoped that they could lure the ex-Tottenham and Lazio midfielder to West Yorkshire, allowing him to become the latest high-profile personality to be associated with the club.
Brazilian legends Socrates and Careca turned out for the side back in 2004, helping to put the team on the map.
The club's owner Simon Clifford insisted that the Gascoigne deal was not designed as a further publicity stunt, but he has been forced to accept that an agreement will not be reached.
