Pre-contract agreement reached for South African defender
Tottenham have reached a pre-contract agreement with SuperSport United for the transfer of Bongani Khumalo in January.
The South African defender, who played for his country at the World Cup, linked up with Spurs for a trial earlier this season.
Harry Redknapp later admitted that he had been impressed by the 23-year-old and was hopeful of pushing through a deal.
Khumalo is now set to complete his move to White Hart Lane when the transfer window reopens, subject to a work permit being granted.
His arrival will boost Redknapp's options at centre-back after a number of injuries to key personnel during the first half of the Premier League season.
Ledley King's troublesome knee means he is unable to play in every match, while there continue to be lingering doubts over the long-term fitness of Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson is currently sidelined with a knee problem.
The Spurs squad has been applauded for its strength in depth but Redknapp will still want to strengthen in the New Year to cope with the demands of a gruelling schedule.
Tottenham could still be involved in the UEFA Champions League after Christmas after making a solid start to their Group A campaign, while they will also be striving to improve upon last season's fourth-placed finish in the Premier League.
