Premier League relegation battle: Who needs what to survive?

Graphic

Aston Villa and Leicester are now mathematically safe, but who will join Burnley and Queens Park Rangers through the Premier League trap door?

Hull City, Newcastle and Sunderland are the teams still at risk of the drop. Here is where they are now, what they have left and what they need to do to stay in the top flight.

16. SUNDERLAND

Played: 36 Points: 37 Goal difference: -20

Remaining fixtures: Arsenal (away), Chelsea (away)

What they need: Sunderland only need one point from their remaining two games to clinch survival, but they are guaranteed to be safe regardless of their own results if Hull fail to beat Manchester UNited on the last day of the season.

Earliest they can be safe: Wednesday, May 20

Earliest they can be relegated: Sunday, May 24

SkyBet relegation odds: 11/1

17. NEWCASTLE UNITED

Played: 37 Points: 36 Goal difference: -25

Remaining fixtures: West Ham (home)

What they need: Three points at home against West Ham would guarantee their survival, but if Hull fail to beat Manchester United they will stay up regardless of their own result.

Earliest they can be safe: Sunday, May 24

Earliest they can be relegated: Sunday, May 24

SkyBet relegation odds: 7/1

18. HULL CITY

Played: 37 Points: 34 Goal difference: -18

Remaining fixtures: Tottenham (away), Manchester United (home)

What they need: If Hull fail to beat Manchester United, they are down regardless of other results. If they do secure an unlikely win over Louis van Gaal's men, they need favours from Sunderland's opponents Arsenal and Chelsea and Newcastle's opponents West Ham. If Hull win and Newcastle fail to win, the Tigers will send the Magpies down with the help of their superior goal difference. If Hull and Newcastle win and Sunderland lose to both Arsenal and Chelsea, then it will be Dick Advocaat's men who slip through the trap door.

Earliest they can be safe: Sunday, May 24

Earliest they can be relegated: Wednesday, May 20

SkyBet relegation odds: 1/7
