Manchester City will hear on Monday the severity of Sergio Aguero's knee injury after a first round of tests proved inconclusive.
The Argentina striker limped off in the first half of City's 1-0 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday and underwent scans on the joint on Sunday.
Aguero is a doubt for City's opening Champions League Group D game against Juventus on Tuesday - but David Silva and Raheem Sterling are hopeful of returning.
Aguero tweeted on Sunday: "Keeping you updated - I had studies done today, to be completed tomorrow. We'll have a clearer picture then. Thanks for the support."
City manager Manuel Pellegrini was angry at the challenge by Palace skipper Scott Dann that forced Aguero to be substituted after 25 minutes at Selhurst Park.
Pellegrini told Sky Sports: "It was an important kick on his knee. We'll see if he can recover between now and Tuesday.
"It's very difficult to say now. It's important to see how he recovers. We'll see."
Spanish playmaker Silva was left out of the weekend's win to rest an ankle knock, while England winger Sterling was sidelined by a hamstring strain.
Pellegrini said: "I hope both of them can be fit on Tuesday. We will see."
