In Ligue 1, Lyon secured their first win in four attempts as they beat Grenoble 2-0,
Lille leapt up to fourth with a 4-1 scalp of high-flying Montpellier while AS Nancy spanked Lens 5-1.

Schalke lead the way in Germany after they
leapfrogged Bayern Munich. A brace from Kevin Kuranyi handed Schalke a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen while Bayern, who play Manchester United on Tuesday, lost 2-1 at home to Stuttgart.
Werder Bremen played out a six-goal thriller with Nurnberg which the former won to make it three successes on the spin, Wolfsburg, who play Fulham on Thursday, left it late to beat Mainz while
Hamburg suffered defeat.
