1997: Signs for Marseille following two-year spell at Caen.
2001: May - Signs for Chelsea in £6.2million deal.
2002: October 12 - Earns first international cap in France's 5-0 win over Slovenia.
2003: June 23 - Announces that he is seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge following a disagreement with Claudio Ranieri.
July 24 - Reneges on pledge to leave the Blues by signing a one-year extension to his contract.
2004: June 2 - Jose Mourinho appointed as Blues manager following the departure of Ranieri.
2005: May - Picks up Premier League winner's medal after Chelsea claim the league by 12 points from Arsenal. Gallas, much to his frustration, spends most of the season playing at full-back.
2006: May 12 - Reveals in an interview with L'Equipe that he wants to leave Chelsea and has his sights set on a move to Italian giants AC Milan.
August 31 - Signs for Arsenal minutes before the transfer window closes in a deal that sees Arsenal's Ashley Cole move in the opposite direction.
September 5 - Chelsea release a statement in which they claim Gallas had threatened to score an own goal had they not allowed him to leave. Gallas rejects the claim.
September 6 - Earns 50th France cap in 3-1 win over Italy.
September 9 - Makes Arsenal debut in 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.
September 23 - Scores first goal for Arsenal in the Gunners' 3-0 win over Sheffield United.
2007: August 9 - Arsene Wenger confirms Gallas will captain the Gunners for the 2007-08 season.
November 3 - Scores late equaliser for Arsenal in their 1-1 draw with title rivals Manchester United at the Emirates.
December 16 - Comes back to haunt his old side by scoring the only goal of Arsenal's 1-0 win over Chelsea at the Emirates.
2008: February 23 - His position as captain comes under fire after the Gunners' 2-2 draw with Birmingham. The Frenchman sulked in the centre circle after Gael Clichy gave away a late penalty and had to be restrained by stewards after kicking advertising boards at St Andrew's.
August 1 - Wenger confirms that Gallas will continue as captain of the Gunners for the 2008-09 season.
October 22 - Pictured with a cigarette in his mouth outside a nightclub.
November 20 - Risks Wenger's wrath by claiming Arsenal's players are "not brave enough in battle". He also revealed there had been a half-time bust up between Arsenal's players during their 4-4 draw with Tottenham and accused one unnamed player of not showing him enough respect.
November 21 - Gallas reportedly stripped of Arsenal's captaincy and left out the squad for the next day's match at Manchester City.
November 22 - Left out of the team as Manuel Almunia is handed the armband.
November 24 - Wenger confirms Gallas will return for the Champions League clash with Dynamo Kiev. However, the French defender was replaced as captain by Cesc Fabregas.
2009: January 8 - Suffers hamstring injury and is ruled out for three weeks.
April 9 - Ruled out for the rest of the season with a medial knee ligament injury, suffered in the Champions League quarter-final clash with Villarreal.
2010: March 31 - Returned to the Arsenal team after an eight-game absence with a calf injury for the Champions League quarter-final first leg tie with Barcelona, but aggravated the problem in what proved to be his final game for the Gunners.
April 4 - Wenger revealed he expected Gallas to miss the remainder of the season with the calf problem.
June - Released by Arsenal. Played in all three games in France's ill-fated World Cup campaign. Les Bleus were knocked out of the tournament in the opening round after infighting and a strike prompted when Nicolas Anelka was sent home by Raymond Domenech.
August 22 - Joined Tottenham on a one-year deal.
